Speen Helping Hospices and 2023 - From February to December

For our first fundraising event in 2023, we ran for the third year in a row, a Valentine's Dinner Raffle. This was a chance for Two lucky couples located within a 15 minute drive of Speen, to win a dinner for two delivered to their home on Valentine's Day - Tuesday 14 February. It included a cocktail, canapes, 3 course meal, chocolates, and champagne.

March 15th was the first ever Speen Helping Hospices - SHH Charity Golf Day at Burnham Beeches Golf Club (18 holes). This event was organized by Martyn Evans, husband of Speen Helping Hospices Management Committee member June Evans. It was sold out within a couple of days of the box office opening. There was incredible support from corporate and individual sponsorship for prizes and holes and the management of Burnham Beeches Golf Club. On the May Day Bank Holiday afternoon, Monday 1st May four young Speen residents set up shop selling homemade scones, cookies and apple juice and lemonade. An excellent enterprise from these young ladies who raised £53 for Speen Helping Hospices. It is so much appreciated by the Speen Helping Hospices Management Committee for the support from all ages in the community to help the much-needed funds for the hospices.

Spring Lunch at the Horse Trust, Speen - Wednesday 3rd May 2023 - Over 60 people attended this annual lunch at The Horse Trust, in Speen with a three course lunch and a presentation on the work of Helen & Douglas House for Children by Andrea Baganz-Pritchard who also received a cheque of £4,500 raised by SHH in 2022.Raffle prizes including Two £100 gift vouchers for dark glasses were donated by Daniel Jackson of Jackson and Company Eye Care of Walters Ash.£2,555 was raised by this event plus £40 from Jane Marchant from Alchemille Garden Design More detailed information here

SHH Supporting the Community - Speen Fete 2023 Saturday 8th July - Members of Speen Helping Hospices committee helped out at Speen Fete at the book and plant store selling these items for fete proceeds and also selling tickets for the SHH Jazz in the Park on the 16th July whilst being entertained by Martin Hart's Speen New Orleans Feetwarmers - Ray Poltock - Trumpet, John Aust - Clarinet, Bill Guyford - Banjo, Peter Hughes - Bass and Martin Hart - Drums. The Martin Hart Quartet will be appearing at the SHH Jazz in the Park at Great Hampden on Sunday 16th July together with Frank Walden on sax.

The Speen Fete team were delighted to announce that they donated £2,700 across the eleven village organisations that took part in making this year’s fete such a success - One of these was Speen Helping Hospices. Many thanks to the Speen Fete team for the donation of £200.

SHH Hollywood Party Night at Speen Festival 23 - Saturday 2nd September. This was going to be the first weekend of Speen Festival 2023. It was a Hollywood themed evening with music from popular films and a short quiz. In early August it was decided to not go ahead as there would be lots of people still away on holiday. There had been a fantastic evening in early September at the 2021 Speen Festival, however that year because of Covid19 lots of people were still not able to have a holiday and an evening at the SHH Party through the ages was very welcome.

November 2023 onwards - Luxury Perfume and Beauty Product Sale 2023/24 Speen Helping Hospices has been given exclusive access to a significant amount of high-end perfume by the Brands Owners to help raise money for the local hospices that we support. Annual Christmas Market at Speen Church on Saturday 18th November 2023

To get you into the Christmas spirit we have organised a pub night for two of the local Chiltern Villages - Speen and North Dean. £166 was raised by this event

Kate Vale and helpers will be opening their Studrige Social (SOUP, SOURDOUGH AND SWEET TREATS) on Thursdays from the 23rd November to 14th December 2023 - All proceeds going to Speen Helping Hospices - £764 was raised by this event More detailed information Here

Christmas Carol Singing in Speen December 2023 These two evening took place on Monday 18th and Wednesday 20th December starting at 5.30 around the streets of Speen. We were fortunate that on both nights the weather was good.

We would like to thank the carollers, collectors and organisers of mulled wine and mince pies for their support and the generous contributions from the community in Speen.

The final event of 2023 Christmas Hamper draw Friday 22 December 2023 - £500 was raised by this event.

The draw took place in Speen, outside Speen Stores on Friday 22nd December - Ruban of Speen Stores (images below) was in charge of pulling the winning ticket out of the bag.

The group - was founded in 2001 by Suzi Rose and called the Speen Supporters Group, in 2013 it became The Speen Group. In 2014 became the Speen Helping Hospices as this name described the purpose of the group and the full objective of raising money for local Hospices. The group has raised over £159,384 since it was established in 2001.
